Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, and it's a few pages of me downloading my brain that gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now, let's get to it.

J

My friend Marcas knows things.

Cleveland residents on Saturday...

Focus, Greg, focus.

How this happened:

If I were the athletic director at Western Kentucky, the first thing I'd do is make this the regular helmet.

So much for the "Kirk Cousins can't deliver in the clutch" haters.

  • He now has 15 game-winning drives in the last four years. That’s 4 more than any other quarterback, including Mahomes.
  • He had the greatest comeback in league history, overcoming a 34-point deficit.
  • First player in history to have 450-yard passing games for three different franchises.
  • Bonus: He just passed Joe Montana for career passing yards and touchdowns.

Plus the swag.

Dang, Daniel.

Story of my life...

The answer for Cleveland...

I read about a football scout who said he paid extra attention to how players get up off the ground after plays. He talked about how elite athletes get up more smoothly and how he felt you could find diamonds in the rough watching for this.

I agree.

And yes, this was mostly an excuse to remind you Zay Jones is a wizard.

Steelers - Cowboys have some history.

And a reminder of how the game has changed.

Although maybe not that different.

This one hurt.

It's not everything, but a fast start helps.

The only sure bet in sports...

The Flying Suplex Tackle is undefeated.

Thanks to Matt Carey for that one.

It's Baseball Playoff time, and few sports do post-season better than Major League Baseball.

Also an excuse for a clip from this cinematic masterpiece.

All the emotions.

Truth.

Thank goodness he avoided that safety...

I saw this Saturday morning and thought it was too high.

Turns out he almost got it by halftime...

Dads out there nodding in agreement.

Thanks to J.G. Bryant for that one.

Tedy with FACTS.

Thanks to Matt Carey for that one.

Nick Saban threw Pete Carroll under the bus. And then backed up over him.

Random Shots readers know I often quote Ferris Bueller and "Life Moves Pretty Fast." Sean Payton used the line for Bo Nix, and Nix responded with this clip.

Thanks to Jeff Tefertiller for that one.

If Patrick Mahomes II did this, the internet would melt.

Parent Trap!

No surprise here.

Music Note this week is from Jimi Hendrix.

I can no more pick my favorite Hendrix song than I can pick my favorite Rolling Stones song.

But "Red House" is up there amongst the favorites.

It's one of those songs that makes you smile after the first few notes, with a classic blues influence and a fun story of perseverance as well. I've no idea if Jimi Hendrix was trying to teach us anything, but it's a story of rolling with the punches and overcoming. Closing with the classic line, "'Cause if my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will."

I recommend listening at maximum volume.

I'm a son of the South and have lived in Tennessee for 35 years. It's my home. But I grew up in Texas and went to Texas A&M.

A couple of things on this one.

First, "Intoxicated subject ejected from game and released to sober wife" is the scariest thing I read this week.

In my house, I'd have been better off going to jail.

Second, the school police department using the "#BTHOmissouri" hashtag is classic A&M. BTHO means "Beat The Hell Outta" and it's always followed by the opponent. And always in lower case. We peg the Petty Meter in College Station.

It's been a rough start for Mark Andrews GMs.

Can't stop watching this.

We may be living in a simulation...

UCLA guy just thankful they didn't join the SEC.

Because I know you folks need to know this kind of stuff.

Speaking of things changing fast.

When punters dream.

Makes it look easy.

Kyler Murray KNEW.

Bill's had enough.

One perk of hosting Saturday Night Live is calling out an upset for your alma mater.

One more baseball note. This is cold.

The Pickens Cycle.

Wrapping with this one.

Presenting the Ex-Franchise QBs.

First, God Bless the Internet. This is silly.

Except for "FLAC-NEATO." That's genius.

But there's a good story.

It's easy to think something is over when it doesn't work out, but that's often not the case. Sometimes, it's just a chapter closing and not the whole book. Sometimes you need a second chance. Or a third, fourth, fifth or more chance. Maybe it's a different location or a different surrounding cast or maybe it's a whole new sport or occupation.

But don't let setbacks take you down. Hang in there. And Rock On.

Thank you for being part of this goofy journey with us.

And thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Jake Bryant, Matt Carey, Jeff Tefertiler, J.G. Bryant and Clayton Gray for the help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
