Hi Folks,

We do a ton of insightful, thoughtful, and serious features here at Footballguys with smart people thinking deeply for you.

This is not one of those features.

This is Random Shots, a few pages of me downloading my brain, which gets stuffed with way too many random items from too many hours watching, reading about, and listening to football every weekend and throughout the week. It's the only way I manage. Here's hoping it has some value for you.

We'll see. Now, let's get to it.

J

Our game can be a cruel game.

Flashback to July 8.

In hindsight, "Didn't overthink it" was maybe not the best description there.

If a fantasy football season were 9 seconds like this video, we're about 2 seconds in.

But so far, this feels pretty accurate.

Make sure to have the sound on.

Nailed it.

The perfect caption does not exis...

I could probably call it a wrap right there.

But I won't.

Mankind in a picture.

Actual NFL headline in 2024 from a real website.

Not as funny if you have Bo Nix.

This one felt personal.

Truth.

Finally.

Job Goals.

Be so good at what you do and how you do it that you get this kind of reception when you see your former company the next year.

You might have seen a little of the dust-up between Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield.

From the Associated Press:

"The seven-time Super Bowl champion didn't hold back in responding to Baker Mayfield's recent comments that Brady created a “stressful environment” during the 2022 season, his last with the Buccaneers.

"After Mayfield threw his second touchdown pass to give Tampa Bay a 14-0 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Brady shared his thoughts from the booth about his replacement's criticism.

“I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings so there was a mindset of a champion that I took to work every day,” Brady said when Fox posted Mayfield's comments on screen. “This wasn't daycare. If I wanted to have fun, I would've went to Disneyland with my kids.”

Not surprisingly, Ryan Fitzpatrick had the best take:

Not sure what was more wild. Ryan Williams' catch and score Saturday night to beat the Georgia Bulldogs.

Or 12 hours later, reportedly updating his avatar to Michael Vick holding a dog.

It should be noted, Twitter Community Notes are saying the avatar was photoshopped and Williams did not change the image. Other sites are claiming the Community Notes are wrong and he did change the image.

Either way, the guy will never have to pay for another drink in Alabama for the rest of his life.

Just going to drop this here.

Music Note This Week.

Like most everyone my age, I grew up loving the Beastie Boys. I could pick one of a dozen songs here, but I'll go with a classic in "Sabotage"

You've all seen the video from the days back when MTV actually played videos. It spoofs some of the fun shows of that time with Hawaii Five-O, Streets Of San Francisco and Starsky and Hutch. So good.

But my favorite version is when they absolutely crushed it live on David Letterman.

This was peak television right here. Enjoy.

I love this guy.

Pat McAfee talking about how Ben Roethlisberger was nervous with Joe Flacco going in was so good.

Craziness from the diamond.

Kirk Cousins is so fun.

Reminder:

Miami gets the best game names.

Meanwhile, in Cleveland...

I feel like I'm using this way too frequently...

Protect Dan Campbell at all costs.

Calvin Johnson is a large human.

There are breaking tackles. And then there's Ken Walker III breaking tackles...

Perfect.

ESPN, this was uncalled for.

Josh knows things.

Grandparent Goals.

You've seen this play by now. And no doubt, it's a fantastic effort from David Montgomery.

But hats off to Devon Witherspoon, #21, as well. Yes, he got posterized on the initial hit. But watch how quickly he gets back up and pursues the play.

Everyone wants to laugh at Witherspoon for landing on his back. The reality is some of that is physics. Montgomery is an inch shorter and 40 pounds heavier. So save the LOL's. I loved the effort by the defensive back.

And I'll take heart over physics every time.

Hang on.

I love that Aaron Rodgers is aware of his service to the Internet and goofy columns like this.

We'll see who's laughing now.

A thought. You may not sound as cool as you think you do calling Tyler Huntley "Snoop."

It's a beautiful game.

Sports, Man. Sports.

Surely, this is in the works already.

I love the "You too, Sir" here. Almost too wholesome.

Thanks to Bob Harris for that one.

This confused me as the Internet told me everyone hates Aaron Rodgers...

Kentucky upset No. 6 Mississippi 20-17 with a late TD, and Ole Miss couldn't connect on a field goal in the final minute.

The Internet remains undefeated:

Thanks to Clayton Gray for that one.

At Browns HQ...

Sigh.

Felt this a little too much.

Just saying. Footballguys Random Shots QB1 is ready.

Wrapping with this one.

Jayden Daniels just broke the record for the highest completion percentage through the first four games in NFL history.

He's completing an astounding 82.1% of his passes.

Here's Daniels a few months ago.

The lesson here for us is twofold, I think.

First, don't let a mistake affect you. Sure, it was funny a star quarterback couldn't throw a decent first pitch. We laughed back then. I'm guessing Daniels just shrugged.

Secondly, find your lane. My guess is Daniels could easily throw strikes. But even if he couldn't, maybe baseball just isn't his game. Thankfully for Washington fans, football is Daniels' focus. And he's exceptional there.

Don't give up too early, and deciding where the line is takes wisdom, but if something isn't working, move on.

And find the thing that does work for you.

Rock on.

Thank you for being part of this goofy journey with us.

And thanks to Footballguys Keith Overton, Jake Bryant, and Clayton Gray for the help. If you've got a Random Shot of your own, email me at bryant@footballguys.com.

Thanks for playing along, and I hope you make the most of whatever you're doing in your life. Love your neighbor and stick together.

Peace and Grace to you.

J
