Monday Update:
James Cook is out this week with a toe injury. Ray Davis becomes a top Captain and flex play. He should be the most popular captain play on this slate given the volume and price. Ty Johnson will also have a role in this game and could be a solid flex play.
Disclaimer
These contests are intended to be fun as you’re watching the game. It’s incredibly difficult to get a real edge as there are so few options, and in MME contests, there are often many duplicate lineups. One play or one penalty can change the entire outcome of the game.
Game Strategy
- Over/Under: 41
- Spread: Bills -2.5
- Bills Implied Team Total: 21.8
- Jets Implied Team Total: 19.3
This projects as a low-scoring affair. The Bills are favored but the Jets are at home. Lock in Josh Allen and then get weird from there.
Injury Roundup
- James Cook Questionable but expected to play
- Khalil Shakir Questionable
Captain Consideration
Buffalo Bills Showdown Players
Quarterback
Josh Allen - Captain/Flex
Josh Allen uncharacteristically isn't throwing for many yards this season but he's still getting it done. He ranks sixth at the quarterback position in DraftKings points per game (19.6), seventh in pass touchdowns per game (1.6), and leads a Bills offense that ranks fifth in EPA/Play. Despite the tough projected matchup, the Bills are favorites in this one and it's tough to envision making any lineups without Allen.
Running Back/Wide Receiver/Tight End
James Cook - Flex
James Cook is questionable but expected to play. His game status must be monitored but if he's out there he's a tough fade. Cook is a dual-threat in the fifth-best offense per EPA/Play and ranks fourth in the NFL in total touchdowns (5).
Dalton Kincaid - Flex
Dalton Kincaid has had a disappointing season thus far but he led all Bills in routes run (28) last week on 36 dropbacks. It's simply a matter of time before the talented Kincaid posts a big game.
Keon Coleman - Flex
Keon Coleman led all wide receivers in routes run (26) on 36 dropbacks and brought in a 49-yard touchdown reception in Week 5. He has seen target totals of 4 and 5 over his past two games, respectively, and is a huge key to helping Buffalo unlock their passing offense moving forward.
Curtis Samuel - Flex
Curtis Samuel hasn't produced this season but that makes him a fun tournament play on this one-game Showdown slate. Samuel ran 24 routes last week, just two fewer than Keon Coleman. He saw four targets and received one carry.
New York Jets Showdown Players
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers - Flex
Aaron Rodgers ranks just 21st in passing yards per game (218.6) and leads a Jets offense that only ranks 25th in EPA/Play. However, in true Rodgers fashion, he's still finding ways to throw touchdown passes despite New York's offensive struggles. Rodgers isn't a must roster by any means but he makes sense in lineups with Garrett Wilson for the stack.
Running Back/Wide Receiver/Tight End
Breece Hall - Captain/Flex
For the most part, Breece Hall has struggled this season. There's no doubt about it. He's only averaging 69 total yards per game, which is inexcusable for a dual-threat that is supposed to be an elite talent. However, his usage is still awesome. Hall ranks 14th in opportunities per game (18.6) and is at home against a Bills defense that only ranks 22nd in Rush EPA Allowed. Don't overreact to a small five-game sample size and go right back to Hall in this one.
Garrett Wilson - Captain/Flex
Rumors regarding Davante Adams joining the Jets continue but for now, Garrett Wilson is the alpha of this passing attack. Wilson saw an insane 23 targets last week, catching 13 of them for 101 yards and 1 touchdown. He's an elite volume play as he leads the league in targets (56).
Braelon Allen - Flex
Braelon Allen has averaged 10.25 opportunities per game from Weeks 2-5. He's a legitimate part of New York's offense and is firmly in flex territory at home against a Bills defense that only ranks 22nd in Rush EPA Allowed. One fun way of getting unique is playing both Breece Hall and Allen together in the same lineup.
Allen Lazard - Flex
Allen Lazard is Aaron Rodgers' boy and has been solid this season. He has seen 22 fewer targets and has 13 fewer receptions than Garrett Wilson. Despite this, Lazard has just 52 fewer receiving yards and two more touchdown receptions than Wilson. Lazard will continue to be a major part of the passing attack in this one.
Tyler Conklin - Flex
After a slow start to the season, Tyler Conklin has seen target totals of 6, 8, and 9 over his past three games, respectively. He hasn't scored yet on the season. He's due and projects to be low-owned.
