Staffers in a Bad Mood

  • Phil Alexander: Mega-bad. Geno Smith and Drew Lock make up the league's most uninspiring quarterback depth chart.
  • Kevin Coleman: If Seattle plans on heading into the 2022 season with Geno Smith and Drew Lock fighting for QB1, it will be a long season for this offense.
  • Jeff Haseley: Ask Carolina how important a good quarterback is to their offense. I don't see the talent rising above to keep the offense afloat. This seems like a down season for Seattle.
  • Christian Williams: The pieces they added to the offensive line are intriguing, but an upgrade at quarterback is necessary.
  • Jason Wood: An aging roster and departed superstar create a litany of questions.
  • Andy Hicks: The answer to replace Russell Wilson is not Drew Lock or Geno Smith
  • Ryan Weisse: This offense was low-volume and boring with Russell Wilson. Now we're dealing with Drew Lock and Geno Smith. Bad may not be strong enough.
  • Ben Cummins: Without Russell Wilson, the Seahawks will field one of the worst offenses in the NFL this season.
  • Jeff Bell: Coaching philosophy that took the ball out of Russell Wilson’s hands meets Geno Smith or Drew Lock.
  • Zareh Kantzabedian: 2022 will essentially be a repeat of last year. Inefficient offense with the inability to consistently sustain scoring drives.
  • Dave Kluge: But a trade for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo could quickly change the mood.
  • James Brimacombe: Not sure you can make a different selection for this team with the current quarterback situation.
  • Craig Lakins: This is a team in need of a full rebuild, but it's unclear if they know that.

Reasons to be In on Rashaad Penny

  • Christian Williams: Penny's impressive play down the stretch made him worthy of a dart throw.
  • Ryan Weisse: The offense will be awful, but they will run the ball. Over the last five weeks in 2021, Penny was the best back in fantasy, and you can land him in the 7th Round.
  • Ben Cummins: Penny finished 2021 on a tear and is affordable enough to draft despite the addition of Ken Walker.
  • Chad Parsons: Penny gets minimal respect and there is the assumption Kenneth Walker will overtly take the starting job. Penny will get the first crack and, health-pending, keep the job longer than the general consensus values.
  • Dave Kluge: Years of injuries are scaring off fantasy managers. After seeing him healthy down the stretch last year, his upside is hard to ignore.

Reasons to be In on Ken Walker

  • Phil Alexander: Few things in life are inevitable. Rashaad Penny missing a chunk of the season due to injury is one of them.
  • Andy Hicks: When your quarterbacks struggle, you run the ball.

Reasons to be In on DK Metcalf

  • Kevin Coleman: Metcalf is undervalued right now and comes in at WR18 according to Footballguys ADP. In the games Geno Smith started last season, Metcalf averaged over 17 FPTS/G and had over a 30% target share. Bet on the talent.
  • James Brimacombe: Metcalf finished as WR10 overall last season but with the way he is being drafted so far this offseason you would think he was injured. At only 24 years old and back to back top ten seasons I am betting on Metcalf no matter who the quarterback is.

Reasons to be In on Noah Fant

  • Christian Williams: Fant is a value pick at TE16.
  • Craig Lakins: Seattle should find themselves in trailing game scripts quite a bit and Fant could rack up targets in a hurry.

Reasons to be In on No One

  • Haseley: Both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett seem to have value at their existing ADP, however, that doesn't mean they will produce the same, but with a price discount.
  • Jason Wood: Avoiding the bottom 5 offenses is usually a smart play.

Reasons to be In on Geno Smith

  • Jeff Bell: Deep Superflex leagues only, Smith is the cheapest potential starting quarterback in drafts.

Reasons to be In on Drew Lock

  • Zareh Kantzabedian: Lock as a bargain QB2 if he gets the start. There’s a dimension of rushing to his game that goes overlooked.

Players We're Out On at Cost

Reasons to be Out on DK Metcalf

  • Ryan Weisse: He's going off the board as the WR15. We're paying Russell Wilson prices for Drew Lock and Geno Smith. He's more likely to miss the Top 30.
  • Ben Cummins: The gap between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in ADP is ridiculous. I’m totally out on Metcalf at cost.
  • Zareh Kantzabedian: Metcalf’s price point is far too high for me. I’m taking any other player near Metcalf’s ADP.
  • Chad Parsons: Metcalf is a sturdy dynasty hold-buy, but the floor has no limitations this year with how bad the passing game and quarterback play *could* be in 2022.

Reasons to be Out on (Almost) Everyone

  • Phil Alexander: I'm avoiding everyone except Ken Walker.
  • Jeff Haseley: Even the running back room is a committee. This has the makings of a bad offense this season.
  • Jason Wood: Unless they acquire Jimmy Garoppolo soon, hard pass.

Reasons to be Out on Tyler Lockett

  • Kevin Coleman: With the uncertainty at the quarterback position and with DK Metcalf commanding such a large target share, Lockett is a stay away at his current cost.
  • Andy Hicks: DK Metcalf has imposing size and speed to overcome Lock or Smith. Lockett needs good quarterback play.

Reasons to be Out on No One

  • Dave Kluge: I'm not out on anyone at cost. Penny, Lockett, and Metcalf have all been pushed low enough down draft boards that I'll take on the risk.

Reasons to be Out on Drew Lock and Geno Smith

  • James Brimacombe: I am not buying into either of these quarterbacks as the guys that will lead this team. I feel there is still a good chance that the Seahawks make a move at the position before Week 1.

Reasons to be Out on Rashaad Penny

  • Craig Lakins: Penny looked great down the stretch in 2021, but they didn't draft Ken Walker in the second round to hand the ball to someone else.

Reasons to be Out on Ken Walker

  • Ben Cummins: Drafters are confidently selecting Ken Walker over Rashaad Penny yet I have Penny ranked higher.
