Recently, we asked the Footballguys staff for their top rookies at each position. Over the next several weeks, we'll get deeper into the 2025 draft class and release our massive 2025 Footballguys Rookie Guide (for offense) after the Super Bowl. For now, here's a quick look at how our staff sees the edge rusher position.
Remember that it is early in the process. Showcase events like the Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl will allow us to better compare these players, and the NFL Combine will add even more clarity.
Key
Rank: the player's rank at the position.
Pts: the number of points the player gained in the voting; the max changes based on how many staff members participated and how deep the voting was, but bigger numbers are always better.
Firsts: the number of first-place votes the player received from a staff member.
Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp said he has been informed by the team that they will look to trade him this offseason.
Our view: Kupp shared on social media on Monday night that the Rams were looking to trade him "immediately" and that they were "working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships." Further specifics on what that deal would look like, or when it will come down, are not yet known. We do know that Kupp, who has spent his entire career with the Rams, would prefer to remain with the club. "I don't agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA," the veteran wideout wrote. The 31-year-old has two years left on his three-year, $80 million deal. He is owed $20 million next season and just shy of $20 million in 2026.
Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett has requested a trade from the team Monday, Feb. 3.
Our view: At the Senior Bowl last week, Browns General Manager Andrew Berry reiterated he has no interest in trading Garrett, the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year. While that didn't keep Garrett from asking -- and it won't keep teams from offering, the Browns will have a say in this. The No. 1 pick of the 2017 draft, Garrett is a four-time, first-team All-Pro and is already one of the best players in franchise history. He's recorded 102.5 sacks, becoming the first player in league history to record at least 14.0 sacks in four straight seasons in 2024. Although the Browns finished 3-14, Garrett still led the league with 22 tackles for loss. He also had 28 quarterback hits. As Profootballtalk.com notes, Garrett has two more years on his current contract, which would create significant dead money on the cap for Cleveland.
Updating previous reports, Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly signed a deal that will pay him nearly $6 million annually and becomes one of the highest-paid coordinators in the league.
Our view: Kelly previously coached Oregon and UCLA at the college level and the Eagles and 49ers in the NFL. He is 81-41 as a college coach and 28-35 in the NFL. Kelly's Oregon offenses were often some of the most productive in the country. In 2013 and 2014, Kelly's Eagles teams were 10-6 each season and had the fourth- and third-highest-scoring offenses in the league with Nick Foles, Michael Vick, and Mark Sanchez as his QBs. The Raiders still need to find their QB of the future, but Kelly's history of success with lesser signal callers is worth noting.
Among the biggest movers this week: Lamar Jackson surged 6 spots, Jayden Daniels climbed 4, and Bo Nix jumped 8. But which of these rising QBs most deserves the boost?
So today, we ask you Footballguys:
π³οΈ POLL: Which rising QB most deserves their recent NFFC ADP surge?
When you vote in the Poll below, you'll see the current standings, and we'll post the final results in the next edition of the Daily Update.

π³οΈ POLL: Who deserves to win the 2024 NFL Comeback Player Of The Year award?
Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett has requested a trade, but the team has no desire to deal him, according to sources.
Our view: Browns GM Andrew Berry told reporters at the Senior Bowl last week that he would not trade Garrett, even for a hypothetical offer of two first-round picks. The Browns' stance on trading Garrett has not changed amid his trade request, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday.
Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken agreed to a contract extension, the team announced Monday, Feb. 3.
Our view: Monken led the Ravens to their first-ever No. 1 ranking in offense and helped quarterback Lamar Jackson record career highs in passing yards (4,172) and touchdown passes (41) in 2024. In Monken's two years as playcaller, Baltimore has averaged the second-most yards (397.6) and the second-most points (29.4) in the league. From a fantasy perspective, the continuity is great; high-end production for the players involved is even better.
πΊ 11 Dynasty Sleepers To Target Before the NFL Draft
The Dynasty Fantasy Football offseason is full swing! Join Sigmund Bloom and Cecil Lammey as they look at the biggest dynasty sleepers to target before the NFL Draft!
University of Washington offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll is being hired by the Las Vegas Raiders to fill their offensive line coach and run-game coordinator vacancies, according to sources Monday, Feb. 3.
Our view: Carroll, the son of Raiders head coach Pete Carroll, served as Washington's offensive coordinator in 2024 and held the same role under coach Jedd Fisch with Arizona in 2022 and 2023. He worked under Pete Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks from 2015 to 2020, serving as the team's assistant offensive line coach and then run game coordinator. Brennan Carroll coached tight ends at USC under his father from 2004 to 2009.
Former New Orleans Saints offensive line coach John Benton and quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko are expected to be hired by the Seattle Seahawks in their respective roles, according to sources Monday, Feb. 3.
Our view: Janocko has previously been quarterbacks coach in New Orleans, Minnesota and Chicago and has worked with new Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Like Janocko, Benton held the same post with the Saints in 2024. Benton only spent a year with the Saints, but he's been around the NFL for the last two decades. He's had stops with the Jets, 49ers, Jaguars, Dolphins, Texans, and Rams.
There are no sour grapes from Baker Mayfield regarding Liam Coen's departure. The former Buccaneers offensive coordinator became Jacksonville's head coach on Jan. 24 to end a drama-filled week in which he initially pulled himself out of the running and returned to Tampa Bay on a new contract, only to then accept a second interview with Jacksonville and, subsequently, the job offer. Despite all the back and forth, Mayfield gets it. "I know people are gonna be upset about it, but . . . you can't argue with that decision," Mayfield said. "I can't be mad at that. As much as I would want to have him still here, it is what it is. Life goes on, and I'm happy for him."
Our view: It marks the second straight year Mayfield's OC has left for a head-coaching job since the QB joined the Buccaneers in 2023. Mayfield first revitalized his career under offensive coordinator Dave Canales, posting 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions to reach his first Pro Bowl. Canales left for the Carolina Panthers, in came Coen, and Mayfield flourished all the more. Under Coen, he shattered career highs set just the year prior, completing 71.4 percent of his throws for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. The Bucs promoted passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard to OC last week, offering at least some continuity.
The Texans are hiring Rams TEs coach and pass game coordinator Nick Caley as their new OC, as C.J. Stroud and the Houston offense get a new play-caller, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Our view: Caley drew interest from multiple teams over the last month (including the Patriots and Jets), and he becomes the latest offensive assistant to Sean McVay to move up the coaching ladder. Caley was the tight ends coach and pass game coordinator for the Rams, and he spent seven years on Bill Belichick's staff before moving to Los Angeles in 2023. His innovative coaching style and impressive track record with the Rams made him a highly coveted candidate.
