Howdy Reader,

Welcome In. It's been a long season and we're down to two teams as we look to the Super Bowl. We saw some familiar storylines today as the Eagles and Saquon Barkley rolled, then the Chiefs won by one score for the twelfth time this season.

We'll be without football next Sunday for the first time since the first of September.

But we're not going anywhere. We'll be bringing you the News and Notes you need so you can remain the most informed GM in your league.

Our Sigmund Bloom and Bob Harris have what you need for today.

Let's Go.

1. KC: Kansas City advances to Super Bowl LIX

Source: ESPN.com

The Kansas City Chiefs topped the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game, advancing to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9. QB Patrick Mahomes completed 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, while running 11 times for 43 yards and two scores and a lost fumble. RB Kareem Hunt had 17 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown, while RB Isiah Pacheco ran five times for 12 yards with two receptions for 12 yards. WR Xavier Worthy added six receptions for a game-high 85 yards and a touchdown, while rushing twice for 16 yards. WR JuJu Smith-Schuster was good for two receptions and 60 yards, while WR Marquise Brown had three snags for 35 yards on five targets. TE Travis Kelce was fairly quiet with just two catches and 19 yards on four targets, while WR DeAndre Hopkins had a single 11-yard grab on two targets. CB Chamarri Conner and LB Drue Tranquill each had nine total tackles.

Our view: As ESPN.com noted, Mahomes had one of his better games of the season. He mostly threw quick passes and was much sharper with them than in the Divisional Round victory over the Texans. The Bills were effective in eliminating Mahomes as a runner when the teams met in the regular season in Week 11, holding him without a carry. But Mahomes' running was a significant factor in this game. He not only scored twice but converted on a run on fourth down in the second quarter, which kept a drive alive for the Chiefs that turned into their second touchdown. Meanwhile, a week after his big divisional game against the Texans, Kelce was quiet. Fortunately, the wideouts showed up. Now the Chiefs will have two weeks to prepare to take on the Eagles and attempt to deliver a "Three-Peat" in New Orleans.

2. PHI: Philadelphia wins in rout, advances to Super Bowl LIX

Source: ESPN.com

The Philadelphia Eagles pounded the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 26, advancing to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. QB Jalen Hurts completed 20-of-28 passes for 246 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions while rushing for three scores. RB Saquon Barkley ran 15 times for 118 yards and three scores, as well as a 4-yard catch on two targets, while RB Will Shipley added four runs for 77 yards and a TD. WR A.J. Brown led the way with 96 receiving yards and a score on six grabs and eight targets, while TE Dallas Goedert posted seven receptions for 85 yards on eight targets with two runs for 13 yards. WR DeVonta Smith chipped in with four grabs for 45 yards. LB Zack Baun led the way on defense with game highs of 12 total stops and eight solo tackles, with a fumble recovery and a tackle for loss.

Our view: The Commanders turnovers set up the Eagles with short fields all day and everything clicked for Philadelphia. The offense goes into the Super Bowl on a high note even though Jalen Hurts is nursing some sort of knee injury. Baun's performance on defense was key for a unit that lost his fellow starting linebacker Nakobe Dean to a knee injury in the wild card round.

3. BUF: Buffalo comes up short in AFC title game

Source: ESPN.com

The Buffalo Bills suffered a 32-29 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. QB Josh Allen completed 22-of-34 passes for 237 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, while running 11 times for 39 yards. RB James Cook rushed 13 times for 85 yards and two scores, while absorbing all of his three targets for 49 yards. WR Mack Hollins led the way with three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown, while WR Khalil Shakir was good for six receptions for 46 yards on seven targets. WR Amari Cooper resurfaced for four receptions for 33 yards, while TE Dalton Kincaid had two catches for 13 yards, and WR Curtis Samuel had a 4-yard touchdown on his only offensive touch. S Cole Bishop had game highs with 10 total stops and nine solo tackles, while LB Matt Milano had nine total stops, eight solo tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.

Our view: As ESPN.com's Alaina Getzenberg framed it, "A season of surpassed expectations and new heights ultimately had the same familiar ending as a sloppy first half set up a tight final two quarters, and it just wasn't quite enough." The mistake-riddled game continued into the final drive when the Bills offense had an opportunity to post a game-winning score. The Bills seemed unprepared for a blitz on fourth-and-5 with two minutes remaining in the game. Kincaid did not come down with a late heave thrown under duress by Allen. The Bills have now lost all four postseason meetings against the Mahomes-led Chiefs team since 2020 and have lost eight straight road playoff games. Allen-led Bills teams are 0-2 in the AFC Championship. Buffalo will now go into the offseason with new questions about what they need to do to get past Kansas City in the postseason.

4. WAS: Washington comes up short in NFC title game

Source: ESPN.com

The Washington Commanders were eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 26. QB Jayden Daniels completed 29-of-48 passes for 255 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing six times for a team-high 48 yards with a score. RB Brian Robinson Jr. struggled with 11 runs for just 36 yards, while RB Austin Ekeler was bottled up for just 15 yards on eight carries with five receptions for 17 yards and a lost fumble. TE Zach Ertz posted game highs with 11 receptions, 104 yards and 16 targets and WR Terry McLaurin had three grabs for 51 yard and a TD on seven targets. WR Dyami Brown posted three receptions for 42 yards on five targets with a fumble lost. WR Olamide Zaccheaus added four catches for 26 yards on five targets, while TE Ben Sinnott had a 23-yard catch on his only target, with WR Jamison Crowder adding a 4-yard catch on three targets. CB Jeremy Chinn and LB Bobby Wagner each totaled team bests with nine stops.

Our view: The Commanders offense fumbled the ball away or settled for field goals too many times to hang with the Eagles. Brown's fumble slows down the momentum he had built in the playoffs as he heads to free agency, while Ertz had a great game against the team he won a ring with in 2018. Washington exceeded any reasomable expectations this year and they will be the standard for stunning one-year turnarounds for the foreseeable future.

5. SEA: Klint Kubiak hired as offensive coordinator

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Seattle Seahawks are hiring Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, sources said Sunday, Jan. 26. He held the same position previously with the New Orleans Saints. He was reportedly the top choice for head coach Mike MacDonald.

Our view: Kubiak was the hottest name of all NFL coordinators after two weeks and then his offense fell apart, at least in part due to injuries. This should be seen as good news for the Seahawks offense, although not everyone agreed that Ryan Grubb should have been fired, or even did a poor job in his first year as the offensive coordinator. Hopefully this offense can establish some continuity going forward.

6. CHI: Declan Doyle to serve as new OC

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero

The Chicago Bears are hiring Declan Doyle to serve as the team's new offensive coordinator, according to NFL Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Doyle previously served as the tight ends coach for the Denver Broncos.

Our view: The Bears offense is still expected to largely be Ben Johnson's design, with the new head coach having said he'll continue to call plays, but Doyle is considered an up-and-coming coaching star in the business.

7. CHI: Chicago hiring Dennis Allen as new DC

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Chicago Bears are hiring Dennis Allen to fill the team's vacant defensive coordinator position, sources said Sunday, Jan. 26.

Our view: Allen most recently served as head coach of the Saints from the start of the 2022 season until he was fired after the Saints' Week 9 loss. He was also a head coach for the Raiders from 2012 to 2014. Allen was a defensive coordinator twice - in 2011 with the Broncos, and the Saints from 2015 to 2021. The Saints ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in points and yards allowed in his final two seasons as DC and in his first as head coach in 2022.

8. NO: Second interview for Kellen Moore Monday?

Source: NFL.com - Around The NFL

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is expected to have a second interview with the New Orleans Saints for their vacant head coaching vacancy. It will be the second interview, and members of team management plan to fly to Philadelphia and meet Moore as soon as Monday, Jan. 27.

Our view: The Saints job is seen as undesirable because of their dead end cap situation, but Moore could still decide to take the job after seeing Byron Leftwich, Bobby Slowik, and others lose their opportunity and offensive coordinator jobs quickly after being seen as hot candidates. Moore's stock is peaking after his team scored 55 points in the NFC Championship game.

9. DET: John Morton candidate to watch for OC

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero

Denver Broncos pass game coordinator John Morton has emerged as a candidate to watch for the vacant offensive coordinator position for the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport. Morton recently was interviewed by head coach Dan Campbell, and he was on the team's staff a few years ago.

Our view: Campbell comes from the Sean Payton coaching tree, so a hire from Payton's staff in Denver makes sense. We'll see just how much Ben Johnson was responsible for the elite level of the offense in 2025 when someone else takes the reins.

10. NYG: Coach talks with Shedeur Sanders

Source: GiantsWire - John Fennelly

Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders spent significant time with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll at the East-West Shrine Game practices this week.

Our view: The latest draft buzz doesn't have quarterbacks automatically going at the 1 and 2 picks even though the Titans and Browns need a quarterback. The Giants could have their pick of Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward, the other quarterback projected to go in the first round by most. The Giants taking a quarterback at three could initially cause a bump in the dynasty value of Malik Nabers and others, but it might not make them better for 2025 redraft leagues with a rookie learning the ropes. The success of Jayden Daniels this year could lead to unfair expectations for Sanders and Ward.

11. NYJ: Aaron Rodgers could return in 2025

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers' future with the team is uncertain at this point, but head coach Aaron Glenn is believed to be open to having Rodgers return to the Jets in 2025.

Our view: Rodgers could also be an option for Pete Carroll with the Raiders, if Las Vegas doesn't opt for a Russell Wilson reunion. Rodgers won't represent an appreciable bump for the fantasy fortunes of his 2025 team (if he has one) after looking like a quarterback in decline last year.

12. CLE: Jerry Jeudy had some issues with drops

Source: ProFootballReference.com

Cleveland Browns WR Jerry Jeudy led the NFL with 13 dropped passes during the 2024 regular season.

Our view: But Jeudy also set career highs in receptions with 90 and receiving yards with 1,229. His 31 receptions of 15-plus yards were also a career-high. He was most productive after Jameis Winston took over at quarterback when Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury in Week 7. Jeudy is under contract for the next three seasons and should once again be the focal point of the passing game in 2025.
