The organization has been resolute in their support of the second-year starter. He's got the keys to the sportscar, can he drive?

J.J. McCarthy is next in line in the Kevin O'Connell school of quarterbacking. Nearly every quarterback under his tutelage has yielded results. It also doesn't hurt to have a receiving corps anchored by Justin Jefferson.

He'll benefit from the same scheme and supporting cast that helped Darnold land $52.5 million guaranteed from the Seahawks. A low-end QB1 finish is within his range of possible outcomes as a “rookie” and might be close to his baseline.

McCarthy was a Jekyll and Hyde performer at Michigan. Situational decision-making, processing gaffes, and poor coverage reads were the lows that could limit his upside this year. I also have concerns about him playing the entire year as he tries to figure out his limits as an athlete.

If I hear the right things about McCarthy's habits and processing of information on the field, he could make a significant jump into starter-worthy tiers--the surrounding talent is good enough elevate his game.

Developmental prospect but has the right mindset and landed in the perfect situation to accentuate his skillset. Good fantasy pick paired with Kevin O'Connell, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson.

After what was essentially a redshirt rookie year, he got a season to build a foundation with Kevin O'Connell. This was also a season in which Sam Darnold was elevated into a QB1 in the same system he'll run this season. If he proves to be more productive in the situation than Darnold, the upside is real.

I believe in Kevin O'Connell's ability to shape a young QB who is coming in with more talent than Sam Darnold did last year.

The Vikings passed on every opportunity to supplant him as the projected starter, but he remains an unknown NFL talent.

I'm higher than most, I know, but I'm not out on that ledge by myself either. McCarthy is the quarterback who I think is most likely to break into the top 12.
